FLAILS for the Uther/Arthur father-son moments!

Uther/Arthur father-son moments were honestly one of my favourite parts of the show. That, and every Uther/Merlin conversation. The one in this episode was just brilliant!

And okay, I get it Uther is technically a villain and we're supposed to hate him, but it's like they actively try to make him seem sympathetic (when he's not being cartoonishly evil of course).

This has always been one of my favorite episodes because of all the EMO moments. Seriously ... Uther revealing that he wished his son hadn't been born, yet telling him in a later scene that he's the most important thing in the world to him and the thought of losing him is not anything he wants to consider. Tears, much?

And THE MOMENT where Merlin tells Uther there is a bond between him and Arthur. OMG talk about all the feels and all the AWWWWS and all the YES Yes Yes when Uther tells Merlin to make sure Arthur is okay (I can't recall exactly what he says, but omg it is epic for Uther, I know that).

Then when Gaius praises Merlin at the end of the episode ... this sends my heart into flutter-mode every time, because Merlin almost never gets thanked or patted on the back for what he does.

And the photography and cinematography lover in me has to mention the scene with Merlin sending the sword to the great dragon to forge it with his breath, and then the dragon agreeing and forging the sword. The first time I saw this scene, I was in awe. It was such a powerful moment and Merlin was asking the dragon to essentially save Arthur's life. I cannot say enough about this scene. Probably the best one of the entire series imho.

I'm sure after I post this I'll think of another scene or two I should have mentioned :-)

Ah! I missed crashing your fantastic rewatch party :c

This episode is absolutely killer, one of the few that paints Uther in a good light (in a weird the end justifies the means way). I'm wicked bummed to not have running commentary on it with you guys!
Next weekend will hopefully not be so thesis heavy and I'll sneak in on your chat again.

Whoa. I COMPLETELY forgot about the rewatch!
It's quite scary that half the comm did too, actually.
Is everyone else drowning with uni-papers/shitty RL work? That would be a good explanation, I guess.

This episode was really cool. Uther wanting to protect Arthur was very sweet! (Although, honestly? It pisses me off that Uther is so harsh on others and still so willing to twist/ignore the rules/code/anithing whenever HE wants to). Although I'd have liked to see Arthur wield excalibur. But well, some day.
Hopefully next time I'll be uni-free for the rewatch :D
